Picture this...a dinner table where your young child tastes new vegetables and casually eats their meal...again and again... Is it possible?...Well keep reading.
By the time you read the information on this website you will have a crystal clear picture of what really is the secret to getting your child to try new foods and finish at least ten mouthfuls of the prepared meal.
If you are like me, you believe in the benefit of helping your young child eat a variety of foods including vegetables, fruit and fish, thus improving their nutrition and health.
Well … congratulations are in order. The very fact that you are sitting reading this website means you are well on your way to doing just that.
We guarantee if you try Big Mouth Bite on your 2-6 year old and follow the seven tips listed below, you will see an improved willingness to try new foods and finish meals. Our trials on fussy eaters to date have shown that improvements normally happen on the very first use of the book and the child really gets into the swing of it over the first five to seven days.
If within the first week you don’t have the same success as the hundreds of other parents, then send us back the book and we will send you a cheque for the cost of the book and a extra dollar for the postage.
Here are seven tips to improve success with Big Mouth Book*:
• Ensure your child is seated at a table, away from distractions like the television.
• Before you read the book, build the child's suspense by talking with them about discovering new animals and how they eat.
• Explain that they will see a new animal with each mouthful they finish. The author waited until both of his children had made a “bing” noise to signal that their mouth was empty, before turning the page.
• Serve a familiar meal and include a little of the new vegetable or flavour with each mouthful.
• Our children know that if they don't finish ten mouthfuls then there is no alternative food, no milk and no desert.
• Try to provide a variety of foods and maintain regular mealtimes for the whole family.
• Keep the book special by only using it at mealtime.
* These steps are suggestions from one parent to another and are based on the success experienced by the Big Mouth team and our customers. The money back guarantee applies for the first ten days after your purchase made directly from the Big Mouth website. Postage - Big Mouth will pay $1 (postage on an A4 envelope) toward the mail if you wish to return the book. This only applies to Australian purchases. Countries other than Australia will need to cover their own mailing charges to return the book to Australia.
The book has been designed as a light carry anywhere flip chart, it is spiral bound with a supporting base that allows it to stand upright on a table. This means that parents can read and children can view without holding the book. Someone just needs to volunteer to flip the pages! The introductory first page is illustrated with the monkey and explains why animals eat the healthy foods that are in front of them. This page is then followed by ten pages with a four line rhyme on each page, describing how the pictured wild animal gobbles up their meal. The rhyme includes a count down of the mouthfuls to provide focus and help the child through their meal. Our boys love making a "bing" noise to let us know they have finished their mouthful and it was time to turn the page.
Here are the steps we use for the Big Mouth Bite: 1. We read the introductory monkey page which explains that animals don’t stare at food and need to be strong and speedy. 2. We then turn the page to the lion. 3. Then the child puts a mouthful of food in and we start with the words “Open your big mouth” from this lion page. 4. Whilst they are eating the first mouthful we read the rest of the lion page. 5. When they have finished the mouthful the child/ren make a noise like “bing” and we then turn to the shark page. As we have two children we wait until both have said “bing” before we turn the page. 6. Once they have had ten mouthfuls they are on to fruit and/or deserts.
